01. PhD Graduate Stream
Overview
The PhD Graduate Stream is an immigration stream under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program.
Through this stream international graduates with an Ontario PhD degree the opportunity to apply to permanently settle and work in Ontario.
You should apply online to be nominated by the Ontario government for permanent residence. Once you are nominated your next step is to apply to the federal government through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Eligibility Requirements of OINP PhD Graduate Stream
For applying the OINP PhD Graduate Stream, we have to meet the following criterias In the areas of Education, Residecy in Ontario, Settlement funds, Intenstion to live in Ontario, Legal status in Canada ( if applicatble ), Application period.
- Have completed all the necessary requirements to obtain a PhD degree from an approved Ontario university with at least two years of the degree requirements completed while lawfully living and studying in Ontario;
- Have been legally residing in Ontario for minimum 12 of the past 24 months before your application submission date;
- The applicant will be required to provide documentation with his or her full name and address in Ontario to prove that this requirement is met. For example, phone bill, car insurance, hydro/energy bill, leasing document, etc.
- Possess with the sufficient funds and/or income to cover the settlement costs for themselves and their dependent family members (whether or not the family members are accompanying the applicant or not). Potential applicants can determine the settlement funds required depends on family memebrs. The amount is updated yearly by the federal government.
- Dependent family members include: Spouse or common-law-partner, children under the age of 22 and their children.
- Submit the application within two years of the date on which the PhD was recieved;
- Wish to live and work in Ontario; and
- Have legal status (i.e. study permit, work permit, visitor record) if living in Canada at the time of your application.
- The OINP accepts applications from potential applicants who are on implied status at the time of applying.
Settlement Funds details
Applicants of OINP PhD Graduate Stream should demonstrate they have sufficient funds to economically establish themselves in Canada through one or a combination of the below options:
- Funds as demonstrated by the balance listed in bank statements, or statements of accounts showing other investments such as non-locked in, fixed term deposits, mutual funds, etc;
- Annual earnings from ongoing employment in Ontario; and/or
- A job offer in Ontario.
If an applicant uses employment or a job offer in Ontario to meet the settlement funds requirement, he or she should include an employment contract/job offer letter indicating the position, hours of work, and wage. If currently working in Ontario, the applicant must provide two (most) recent pay slips as proof of funds.
Intention to live in Ontario
While potential applicants to the PhD Graduate Stream do not need to be residing in the province at the time of applying, all applicants should intend to reside in Ontario.
Potential PhD Graduate Stream applicants can demonstrate a connection to Ontario by listing his or her ties to the province, which can include:
- Current and/or previous employment in Ontario;
- Job offers or jobs applied/interviewed for in Ontario;
- Education in Ontario;
- Volunteer work in Ontario;
- Lease agreements for a residence in Ontario or property ownership;
- Professional networks and affiliations;
- Family ties;
- Social connections or personal relationships; and/or
- Past visits to Ontario.
Application time frame
Your degree must be dated within two years of the OINP application submission date. For example, if the degree is dated June 1, 2017, the eligible graduate must apply before June 1, 2019. If the degree has not yet been granted, the applicant can use the date indicated on an official letter from the academic institution indicating when the degree will be granted.
Application Process in deatil
Before Applying
Prior to submitting an application, the OINP encourages potential applicants to review the eligibility criteria, document checklist, and ensure that the application is complete. All documents uploaded to Ontario’s e-Filing portal must be clear and legible.
The OINP may request additional documents from PhD Graduate Stream applicants during the processing of the application.
Applying
Applying for the PhD Graduate Stream online through the OINP’s e-Filing portal may take approximately two hours to complete.
Once a registration to apply is submitted through the OINP’s online portal, the applicant has 14 calendar days to complete and submit the application or the registration will expire and get withdrawn. The OINP encourages applicants to complete an application before submitting a payment. Once an application is submitted to the OINP, the applicant will not be able to make any changes.
Applicants are responsible for the translation and notarization of any supporting documents that are not in English or French. It is the responsibility of the applicant to locate a certified translator accredited by the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario (ATIO) and/or obtain a notarization of documents translated by a translator not certified by the ATIO.
If an applicant located in Ontario is not able to find a certified translator accredited by the ATIO, the translation must be notarized. A letter explaining the reasoning and efforts taken to locate a certified translator must included with the application.
If you are applying from outside Ontario, the translation should be notarized. If deemed insufficient, the OINP may require applicants to obtain a translation from a certified translator accredited by the ATIO. Translations completed by the applicant, their representative, or others with personal ties to the applicant will not be accepted even if these individuals are considered certified translators.
After Applying
If the OINP considers an application to be incomplete, individuals looking to apply for the OINP PhD Graduate Stream will be required to resubmit a new application. The OINP may consider an application to be incomplete if inaccurate supporting documents are provided or documents that require translation are not certified or notarized.
Applicants who believe the OINP’s decision was made in error may request an internal review of the application within 30 calendar days of receiving the notice of the decision (if residing in Canada) or within 60 calendar days if residing overseas. The request must not include any evidence that was not submitted to the program before the decision was made unless the evidence was not reasonably available at the time of applying. The OINP’s internal review decision is final.
If the application is successful, applicants will be issued a Letter of Nomination (Nomination Approval Letter) and a Confirmation of Nomination (OINP Certificate of Nomination).
Nomination process
The next step after obtaining a nomination from the OINP is to submit a Canadian permanent residence application to IRCC within six (6) months of being nominated by the OINP.
Applicants should include a copy of both the Letter of Nomination and the OINP Confirmation of Nomination with their permanent residence application to IRCC.
The OINP states that a nomination does not guarantee the approval of an application for Canadian permanent residence with IRCC. The OINP requires that nominees continue to demonstrate, on a reasonable basis, the intention to reside in Ontario.
While nominations are valid for a six-month period, the nominee may submit a request for an extension of the Nomination Certificate if it is no longer valid and:
a. IRCC returns the permanent residence application due to incompleteness requiring the submission of a new application; or
b. the nominee is experiencing delays in securing supporting documents for the permanent residence application (i.e. a police criminal record check) and has not yet applied to IRCC.
You are not Eligible to Apply for the PhD Graduate Stream if you came under these points.
The following individuals are not eligible to apply under the Ontario PhD Graduate Stream:
- Individuals who have not yet completed their PhD degree. The OINP will not accept applications from international students who are in their final semester of studies. Applicants must have met all the degree requirements at the time of application.
- Individuals who completed their PhD degree more than two years ago.
- Individuals who are the recipient of a grant, bursary, or scholarship that requires them to return to their home country or another jurisdiction (another Canadian province/territory or another country) after the completion of their studies (provided that the obligations have not been fulfilled).
- Individuals who currently live in Canada without legal status.

To apply for the PhD Graduate Stream, the PhD degree must be completed at one of the following universities:

02. French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream
Overview
Ontario’s Express Entry French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream is an immigration stream under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).
If you are a French-speaking skilled worker with strong English language skills this stream give the opportunity to apply to permanently settle and work in Ontario.
you should have a valid profile in Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC’s) Express Entry pool and should receive a Notification of Interest from Ontario before you can apply online to be nominated by the Ontario government for permanent residence.
For qualifying for Ontario’s Express Entry French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream, you need to meet the requirements of any of these federal immigration programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), or
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
Requirements for the process
For qualify under Ontario’s Express Entry French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream, you should meet all the criteria in the seven categories listed below. You not required a job offer to apply.
1. Work experience
Before you apply you have to decide which of the following two federal programs you would like to be assessed against:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program
- Canadian Experience Class
Federal Skilled Worker Program
Under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, you need:
- Minimum one year of continuous paid full-time work experience (or the equivalent in paid part- time work) in Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A or B of the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
Your work experience need to be :
- obtained within the past five years from the date of submitting your application to the OINP
- in the same primary occupation as you identified in your Express Entry profile
- Your work experience may be from Canada or overseas andno breaks in employment more than one year .
Please note: your work experience may consist of back-to-back jobs with the same or different employer(s) (with no gap in between), but at least one year must be in the same NOC occupation as your primary NOC declared in your Express Entry profile.
If you are using periods of self-employment, you need to provide employment documentation that is independently verifiable through third parties. This can include client reference letters indicating your duties and periods of work, as well as evidence of ongoing payments to you personally, for the services provided (for example, invoices). Please also note that your hours of self-employed work must be quantifiable to ensure that you accumulated at least 1,560 hours over one year of employment. Reference letters from yourself, your business partners and/or a family member are not accepted by the program.
Canadian Experience Class
Under the Canadian Experience Class, you need to provide :
- at least one year of cumulative paid full-time work experience (or the equivalent in paid part-time work) in Canada in Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A or B of the NOC
Your work experience must have been:
- obtained within the last three years from the date of submitting your application to the OINP
- in one or more of the occupations that you identified in your Express Entry profile
- in Canada while maintaining legal status in Canada
- work you’ve done must add up to one year – it does not have to be one year of continuous work
Please note: Paid work experience gained while studying full-time at a post-secondary institution (for example, on a co-op work term) and self-employment are not eligible under the CEC.
For both programs:
- your work experience must have been obtained over a period of at least one year – work experience totaling 1,560 hours obtained in less than a one year period does not qualify
- full-time work experience means working in a job with at least 30 hours of paid work in a week, that amounts to at least 1,560 hours of paid work in one year
- part-time equivalent work experience means:
- working in one job for at least 15 hours per week, for two years that amounts to at least 1,560 hours of paid work in that two year period, or
- working in more than one job for at least 30 hours per week, for one year, that amounts to at least 1,560 hours of paid work in that one year period
- if your work experience was obtained in Ontario in an occupation that requires a licence or other authorization, only work experience acquired after becoming qualified to practice that occupation in Ontario will qualify
- volunteer work and unpaid internships do not count as valid work experience
Vacation periods, regular sick leave and other standard paid leave entitlements as provided for in collective agreements, workplace legislation and/or individual employer policies are not considered interruptions to full-time employment. Extended leaves are considered interruptions to full-time employment and are not to be included in the calculation of work experience.
2. Education requirements
You need a Canadian bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree or its equivalent in another country.
If you completed your studies outside of Canada, you need to get an Educational Credential Assessment report that proves your education is equivalent to a Canadian degree.
Completing a three-year program at a university, college, or other institute is not the same as having a bachelor’s degree. Your Educational Credential Assessment must state that you have the equivalent of at least a Canadian bachelor’s degree to qualify.
The assessment need to done by one of the following organizations, designated by IRCC.
- Comparative Education Service – University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies
- International Credential Assessment Service of Canada
- International Credential Evaluation Service
- International Qualifications Assessment Service
- Medical Council of Canada (professional body for Doctors)
- Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (professional body for Pharmacists)
- World Education Services
Please note that from November 21, 2019 until May 19, 2020 the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) will place a temporary pause on its assessment of educational credentials for immigration purposes so that it can address the backlog the organization is experiencing. IQAS will process applications for immigration purposes that were submitted and paid for before November 21, 2019.
Each organization charges a different fee and has different processing times. Please check the website of each ECA organization to choose the one that’s best for you.
You need to submit us the copy of the ECA report when you submit your application. The report cannot be more than five years old at the time you submit your application.
We must be able to confirm your ECA results with the organization that completed it. This means you must authorize the organization to share the results with the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (not IRCC).
To authorize us to see your ECA results from:
- Comparative Education Service, fill out a consent form (PDF)
- Medical Council of Canada, order a copy of your report and indicate the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program as the recipient of the report
- World Education Services, order a copy of your ECA report online and indicate the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program as the recipient of the report
Note: For the other organizations, no additional steps are required.
Please contact the Educational Credential Assessment organization directly if you have any specific questions about the process for getting an ECA or how to authorize and share your ECA results with us.
You need to authorize the organization to share the results of your assessment specifically with the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). Authorizing the organization to share the results of your assessment with IRCC is not sufficient for the purposes of your application to the OINP.
If you do not provide a copy of your ECA report and/or if you do not authorize an organization listed above to share the results of your assessment with the OINP,
your
application will be returned and your application fee refunded.
3. Language requirements
You need to understand, read, write and speak French at a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7 or higher.
You should also be able to understand, read, write and speak English at CLB level 6 or higher.
For proving this you should take the mandatory language skills, you should take an approved French and English language test before you submit your application to this stream.
The test must not have been taken more than two years from the time you submit your application.
For French tests, we accept:
- Test d’évaluation de français pour le Canada (TEF)
- Test de connaissance du français pour le Canada (TCF Canada)
For English tests, we accept:
- International English Language Testing (IELTS) – we only accept the General Training test
- Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) – we only accept the General test
4. Details of Settlement funds
You need enough money to support yourself and your dependent family members when you settle in Canada.
Kindly Note that a family member includes your spouse, common law partner and children under the age of 22, including their children.
You need to meet this requirement through one or a combination of any of the below ways:
- funds as demonstrated by the balance listed in bank statements, or statements of accounts showing other investments such as non-locked in, fixed term deposits, mutual funds, etc.
- annual earnings from ongoing employment in Ontario
- a job offer in Ontario
Example: You have checked how much money you must have available and, based on your family size, you must have $29,000 (CAD). You have a job offer in Ontario with an annual wage of $25,000 and you have a balance of $5,000 in your savings account for a total of $30,000. By using a combination of your job offer and bank statement, you would meet the settlements fund requirement.
Note: if you provide bank statements and its include a one-time large deposit, we may ask you to provide additional documentation to support that your funds are free of debt or liability.
5. Intention to live in Ontario
You must intend to live in Ontario after you’re granted permanent residence. We determine this by examining your ties to Ontario, which can include things like:
- working or have worked in Ontario
- getting job offers or applying/interviewing for jobs
- studying
- volunteering
- leasing or owning property
- visiting
- having professional networks and affiliations, family ties and personal relationships
6. Legal status in Canada (if applicable)
If you are applying from within Canada, you must have legal status (a visitor record, study permit, or work permit) at the time you apply and should maintain that status until the time of nomination.
You may apply if you are in ‘implied status’ at the time of your OINP application submission. ‘Implied status’ means that you submitted an application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to renew/extend your temporary status document (a visitor record, work permit, study permit) before its expiry date. You can remain in Canada and continue to work or study under the same conditions as your existing permit until a decision is made on your pending IRCC application.
7. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
If you choose to be assessed against the FSWP, you need to score minimum 67 points on the six selection factors (education, language skills, work experience, age, arranged employment in Canada and adaptability).

03. Human Capital Priorities stream– express entry
Overview
Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream is an immigration stream under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).
If you are a foreign worker with the required skilled work experience, language abilities and education it giving the opportunity to apply to permanently settle and work in Ontario.
You should have a valid profile in Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC’s) Express Entry pool and should receive a Notification of Interest from Ontario before you can apply online to be nominated by the Ontario government for permanent residence.
Eligibillity requirements
To qualify Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream, you need to meet the all the criteria mentioning below. You not required a job offer to apply.
1. Work experience
You can choose any of these federal programs you would like to be assessed against:
- Federal Skilled Workers Program
- Canadian Experience Class
Federal Skilled Worker Program
If you select Federal Skilled Worker Program, you need :
- Minimum one year of continuous paid full-time work experience (or the equivalent in paid part- time work) in Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A or B of the National Occupational Classification (NOC)
Your work experience need to be :
- obtained within the past five years from the date of submitting your application to the OINP(NOC)
- in the same primary occupation as you identified in your Express Entry profile
Mostly you can gained your work experience in Canada or overseas.
no breaks in employment over a one year period

06. Skilled Trades Stream
Overview
Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream is an immigration stream under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).
If you are a non-canadian with Ontario work experience in eligible skilled trades it give the opportunity to apply to permanently settle and work in Ontario.
You need a valid profile in the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC’s) Express Entry pool and sould receive a Notification of Interest from Ontario before you can apply online to be nominated by the Ontario government for permanent residence.
Eligibility requirements
For applying Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream, you need to meet all the criteria in the seven categories below. You not required a job offer to apply.
1. Work experience
You need :
- minimum one year of cumulative paid full-time work experience (or the equivalent in paid part-time work) in Ontario in a skilled trade that is listed in Minor Group 633 or Major Groups 72, 73 or 82 of the National Occupational Classification (NOC)
Your work experience need to :
- obtained within the past two years from the date of submitting your application to the OINP
- in one or more of the occupations that you identified in your Express Entry profile
- in Ontario while maintaining legal status in Canada
- the work you’ve done must add up to one year, but it does not have to be one year of continuous work
Meaning of the Full-time work experience is :
- working in a job with minimum 30 hours of paid work in a week that amounts to at least 1,560 hours of paid work in one year
Meaning of Part-time equivalent work experience is:
- working in one job for minimum 15 hours per week for two years that amounts to at least 1,560 hours in that two-year period, or
- working in more than one job for minimum 30 hours per week for one year that amounts to at least 1,560 hours of paid work in that one-year period
Kindly note:</p/>
- your work experience should been obtained over a period of minimum one year
- work experience totaling 1,560 hours obtained in less than one year period does not qualify
- if you worked in a compulsory trade, only work experience acquired after becoming qualified to practice that occupation in Ontario will qualify
- paid work experience gained while studying full time at a post-secondary institution (for example, on a co-op work term) and self-employment are not eligible
- • volunteer work and unpaid internships do not count as work experience
Vacation periods, regular sick leave and other standard paid leave entitlements as provided for in collective agreements, workplace legislation and/or individual employer policies are not considered interruptions to full-time employment. Extended leaves are considered interruptions to full-time employment and are not to be included in the calculation of work experience.
2. Valid certificate or licence requirments (if applicable)
If you are claiming work experience in a compulsory trade, even if you are no longer working in the trade, you should have a valid certificate or licence in Ontario at the time you apply and you should have held a valid certificate or licence that covers the period of work experience that is being used to meet at least one year of work experience in an eligible skilled trades occupation.

3. Current residence in Ontario and legal status in Canada
You need to living in Ontario and hold a valid work permit at the time you apply.
If your work permit expired, you may still apply to the OINP if you have submitted an application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to renew/extend your work permit before its expiry date. In these cases, you are considered to be in implied status. You can remain in Canada and continue to work under the same conditions as your existing work permit until a decision is made on the pending application.
You are not required to have a job at the time you apply.
4. Language requirements
You need to understand, read, write and speak either English or French at a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 5 or higher.
For proving your mandatory language skills, you should take an approved English or French language test before you submit your application to this stream.
The test report must be within two years from the time you submit your application.
For English tests, OINP accept:
- International English Language Testing (IELTS) – OINP only accept the General Training test
- Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) – OINP only accept the General test
For French tests, OINP accept:
- Test d’évaluation de français pour le Canada (TEF)
- Test de connaissance du français pour le Canada (TCF Canada)
5. Requirments of Settlement funds
You need enough money to support yourself and your dependent family members when you settle in Canada.
Kindly note that a family member includes your spouse, common law partner and children under the age of 22, including their children.
You can meet this requirement through one or a combination of any of the following:
- funds as demonstrated by the balance listed in bank statements, or statements of accounts showing other investments such as non-locked in, fixed term deposits, mutual funds, etcetera
- annual earnings from ongoing employment in Ontario
- a job offer in Ontario
Example: You have checked how much money you must have available and, based on your family size, you must have $29,000 (CAD). You have a job offer in Ontario with an annual wage of $25,000 and you have a balance of $5,000 in your savings account for a total of $30,000. By using a combination of your job offer and bank statement, you would meet the settlements fund requirement.
Kindly Note: if you provide bank statements that include a one-time large deposit, OINP may ask you to provide additional documentation to support that your funds are free of debt or liability.
6. Ties in Ontario
You should intend to live in Ontario after you’re granted permanent residence. OINP evaluate this by examining your ties to Ontario, which can include things like:
working or have worked in Ontario
getting job offers or applying/ interviewing for jobs- studying
- volunteering
- leasing or owning property
- visiting
- having professional networks and affiliations, family ties and personal relationships

03. Entrepreneur Stream
Overview
The Entrepreneur Stream is an immigration stream under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).
This stream made for entrepreneurs from outside of Canada wish to start a new business or buying an existing business in Ontario.
It gives an entrepreneur (and up to one foreign national business partner) the opportunity to be nominated for permanent residence once their business has been established in Ontario.

Process flow – OINP Entrepreneur stream
- 1. You have to register an expression of interest by email
- 2. Once you invited, submit an online application
- 3. You and your business partner (if applicable) attend a mandatory in-person interview at the OINP office in Toronto
- 4. If your stage 1 application is successful, you have to sign a performance agreement
- 5, OINP issue a temporary work permit support letter so that you can apply to IRCC for a temporary work permit
- 6, Establish your business – you have 20 months to implement your business plan and submit a final report
- 7, If your business meets all requirements, OINP ask you for documentation to make sure you are eligible for nomination for permanent residence.
Application requirements
1. Business experience
You need minimum 24 months of full-time business experience in the past 60 months.
Your experience should be as a business owner or as a senior manager (business management). As a business owner you should have had an active role in the business and owned minimum one-third of the business. As a senior manager you must have had senior decision-making capabilities in the business.
2. Net worth
According to the business location the funds are vary as per below :
- within the Greater Toronto Area (City of Toronto and Durham, Halton, York and Peel regions) you need a minimum net worth of 800,000 CDN.
outside of the Greater Toronto Area you need a minimum net worth of $400,000 CDN.
If your proposed business is in the information and communications technology/digital communications sector then regardless of location, you need a minimum net worth of $400,000 CDN.
3. Personal investment funds and minimum equity
As per the business location details are giving below :
- within the Greater Toronto Area, you must make a minimum personal investment of $600,000 CDN and control minimum one-third of the equity in the business
- outside of the Greater Toronto Area, you must make a minimum personal investment of $200,000 CDN and control minimum one-third of the equity in the business
If your proposed business is in the information and communications technology/digital communications sector then regardless of location, you must make a minimum personal investment of $200,000 CDN and control at least of one-third of the equity in the business.
4. Your active involvement
You must be actively involved, on an ongoing basis, in the management of the business.
5. Capital investment purpose
The primary purpose of investing capital in the business must be to make a profit. It must not be to derive interest, dividends or capital gains.
6. Job creation
If the business will be located inside the Greater Toronto Area, you need to create at least two permanent full-time jobs for Canadian citizens or permanent residents. If the business will be located outside the Greater Toronto Area or in the information and communications technology or digital communications sector, regardless of location, you must create at least one permanent full-time job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Jobs must be created within the first 20 months of establishing or acquiring the business, must be filled continuously for at least 10 months and must be paid at the median wage level for the position.
7. Purchasing an existing business
If you wish to purchase an existing business:
- you have to make a business-related visit to Ontario within 12 months from the date of registering an Expression of Interest
- the business being purchased must have been in continuous operation by the same owner(s) for the past 60 months
- ownership of the business must be completely transferred to the applicant or any business partner
- you must use at least 10% of your personal investment towards improving or expanding the business in Ontario
- you must keep all permanent full-time employees that worked in the business prior to the transfer of ownership
General business guidelines
In addition to meeting the minimum requirements listed above, you need to meet the general business requirements .1,The business purpose must be to make a profit from active income through the sale of goods and/or services. 2, Your business must comply with all relevant federal, provincial or municipal legal, regulatory and licensing requirements. 3, This includes compliance with Ontario’s labour and employment standards laws. 4, Your business must be permanent. Project-based and seasonal businesses are not eligible. 5, You must maintain a place of business in Ontario at all times.
List of Ineligible businesses types
Before you start the process of applying you need to ensure that your proposed business is not one of the ineligible types listed below.
- automated car wash business
- holding companies
- laundromats
- pawnbrokers
- pay day loan and related businesses
- scrap metal recycling
- tire recycling
- a business involved in producing, distributing or selling pornography or sexually explicit products or services, or providing sexually oriented services
- businesses which have been previously owned/operated by current or former OINP business stream nominees
If your proposed business will be located in the Greater Toronto Area, the following types are also ineligible.
- existing franchises in Ontario (new foreign franchises expanding into Ontario are permitted)
- gas stations
- bed and breakfasts
Language skill requiremnts
You must be able to listen, read, write and speak English or French at a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 4.
For English tests, the OINP accepts:
- International English Language Testing (IELTS) (General Training test only)
- Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) (General test only)
