What You Need to Do for a Medical Exam to Go to School in Canada
Do you want to go to school in Canada, which has beautiful scenery? You’re not by yourself. A huge number of foreign students come to Canada every year because it has great schools and a lively, multicultural atmosphere. But getting a study pass can be hard, especially since Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently made changes to make it easier to handle the large number of foreigners coming to Canada.
The simple application method of the past is long gone. Now, people who want to go to school have to go through three steps to get their study pass. First, they need to get a LOA from the Canadian Designated Learning Institution (DLI) they want to attend. Next, they need to get an official letter from the province or territory where the DLI is based. And finally, the cherry on top: getting an IRCC study pass.
On the other hand, for some, this trip has an extra stop: the medical exam. A trip to the doctor is in store for you if you fit into any of the following groups:
1. Coming from a certain country or territory where a visa is needed
2. You want to stay in Canada for longer than six months
3. Getting a degree in medicine
4. Wanting to work in healthcare or a job that requires close touch with kids or old people
Not to worry, though. The IRCC has made a Temporary Public Policy for Medical Exams that will make things easier for some candidates until October 6, 2024. People who have had a medical test in the last five years may not have to go through the process again if they meet certain criteria, such as living in Canada and showing that they pose little to no risk to public health.
It is very important to understand the details of medical tests for temporary residents. IRCC has set out different standards based on how long a person plans to stay in Canada. If you’re only going to be gone for six months or less, you might not need a medical exam unless you’re going into a job where public health is very important.
If you want to stay longer than six months or apply for a parent and grandparent super visa, on the other hand, you will have to go through a physical exam. This is especially important if you’ve lived in or traveled to certain countries or regions where health problems are common.
There are two types of exams that people who want to take should know about regular and streamlined. Even though IRCC chooses which exam you’ll have, these tests can only be done by panel doctors that IRCC has chosen. That’s right, you can’t just go to your family doctor for this.
Finally, knowing how to get a study permit and what you need to do for your medical test is important if you want to make your Canadian dreams come true, whether you’re just visiting for a short time or staying for a long time.
